What is the Best TWP Stain for Ipe and Hardwood Decking in 2024  – TWPStainHelp.com

Ipe and other hardwood decking are commonly used for exterior projects for their natural beauty. The denser wood holds up well in many different climates. But like other wood types, Ipe and hardwood decking should be finished with a weather-resistant coating. This ensures a longer lifespan and enhanced appearance.

The best TWP Stain for Ipe and hardwood decking is the 100 series where available. The higher VOC levels of the 100 series, restrict it from being sold in all states although it is an EPA registered wood preservative. TWP 100 Series stain is ideal for dense woods like Ipe. It has an exceptional absorption rate to prevent UV discoloration and moisture damage.

Best TWP IPE Stain

The TWP 100 Series is available in 6 colors all of which will enhance the natural beauty of exotic hardwood decking. 100 Series is not prone to mold or mildew like other stains, which can cause wood rot and structural damage. Only 1 coat should be applied to IPE and other Exotic Hardwood stains. The Rustic color is most popular for IPE Wood and Decking.

Where TWP 100 Series is not available the next best TWP Stain for Ipe and hardwood decking is the 1500 Series formula. TWP 1500 is compliant in all 50 states due to a low 250 VOC level and is also an EPA registered wood preservative. This easy to apply TWP is available in 9 different colors to give you the look you want.

TWP 1500 Series Wood Stain penetrates dense woods to lock out moisture and harmful ultraviolet rays. It contains mildewcides that help prevent fungi and mildew growth. Its ease of application and maintenance will ensure you enjoy your hardwood surfaces for many years.

For any Ipe or hardwood decking surface, try either TWP 100 or 1500 Series deck stain. Both are excellent for enhancing the wood’s natural beauty and providing adequate weather protection. Using the best TWP stain for Ipe and hardwood decking will guarantee you the most protection for your investment.

Would you expect the 200 or 1500 series to last longer on decking, and by how much? Thanks.

1- We have put one coat of TWP1500 clear on IPE decking, to realize it has no UV protection, is it ok to put second coat of TWP1500 rustic or natural?
2- for new decking Is TWP1500 rustic better or natural better to apply for IPE after sanding the decking?

My mahogany porch has 7-year old sikkens and is very weathered. Is it necessary to strip or sand before applying the 1500 product?

I was hoping to just use your cleaner product with a power washer.

We had our deck finished with TWP 100 stain and have noticed that it gets scratches on it quite easily. Is there something we can put over the stain to stop the scratching?

Ok. Thank you! What if the client does not want to use a tint/color? Should a different product/brand be used?

Sorry, do you mean Not using a color will NOT provide any UV protection regardless of brand? Or it WILL provide protection? Thanks for your help so far!

Two questions:

1) Can I use 200 series stain like California cedar on Ipe? I was thinking it would last longer than 100.

2) Can I stain over a deck that has an old coat of messmers uv hardwood stain?

Thx!

We used 1516 on Ipe after RAD prep, 36 hours of hot, dry, windy, weather, following wet on wet and wiped off excess. 24 hours after staining, the boards in direct sunlight are bubbling, seemingly from the checks. I went back over and wiped off what I could. Is there anything else I can do to mitigate this?

Just one coat for this type of wood. Wipe off any excess that does not soak in after 40 minutes.

Try wiping with rags and mineral spirits. Saturate all oil rags in water and lay flat to dry in the sun.
