I have a new addition that was clad in 4″ shiplap cedar, smooth side out. It has weathered over the winter – about 6 months. There are some water marks (to be expected). I plan to use TWP 100 series (in Iowa), color Dark Oak. Is there anything we need to do to prep the siding and deck to receive stain, like using the Brightener/Cleaner product? I did samples of the Dark Oak and Cedar, and the Dark Oak seemed less uniform (i didn’t prep the new cedar on the sample though). Want to insure most consistency and work with the existing water staining.

New deck with Kiln dried pressure treated pine. I note your reference to “mill glaze.” Would sanding allow proper penetration of 1500 stain? The deck is only 14×14 feet and sanding would not be a big job.

I just had TWP 100 Clear applied to my 3 year old cedar deck and do not love the result. Can I apply a coat of TWP stain over the clear or would I have to strip and sand to prep the wood? Thanks.

I live in south west Virginia. Deck is pressure treated pine- gets morning sun, shade in the afternoon. Temps vary from zero to 95 degrees F. I previously used Cabot oil based on new wood some 12 years ago and re-applied 5 years or so ago. Deck now looks sort of crappy with mold. I have pressure washed the deck and awaiting all the hurricane rain to go away. What TWP product might I need?

Thanks- I’m wondering how I’ll remove “all” of the Cabot. I have pressure washed the deck but NOT down to bare wood. Primarily I intended to get rid of all the black mold rather than strip the deck. Should I pressure wash again. Must I use a sander? Is this extra work essential for TWP to provide a good result?

We installed a new redwood wood deck and then 2months later stained it with Benjamin Moore stain. Very bad idea as it has peeled and looks terrible. This past weekend we sanded it as much as possible getting off most of the stain build up. There seems to still be stain where the wood is knotted. What do I need to do now to stain the deck? Do I need to get all the stain out from the knots? Shoukd I use twp 100 or twp1500?
I now realize I shoukd have left the new wood cure before the original staining.

After removing all of the stain you should let this deck sit for about 4-12 months. Prep and stain after. As to which series to use, that depends on where you live.
We live in Missoula, Montana. 100 or 1500? Are there any tricks for getting the old stain out of the knotted areas? We’ve already sanded it.

We have an old camp in the Adirondack that over the years has been stained with linseed oil and latex stains; nothing within last 8 years or so. Is pressure-washing sufficient preparation in our situation, prior to using TWP, or do we also need to use the Gemini Restore Kit?
You will need to fully remove any previous coatings. This will require stripping and possibly even sanding. Feel free to post some pictures to help determine the proper way to proceed.
I have a 2 year old dock one the Intercoastal Waterway in SC. It is made of Yellow Pine and has been sealed once with Thompsons water seal. I want to switch to TWP. 2 questions: 1) what sort of prep (will pressure washing be good enough) and 2) which TWP stain?
