We are having our deck rebuilt. Doug fir and no primer paint was used by the original builder ..
Now we are using the correct lumber ACQ treated. We looked and found, what we needed, based upOn the horror of the old decking and paint job …
We chose the 1500 natural. We decided to best treat befOre installing. So, it was treated and it came out beautifully.

I have a new cedar deck being installed in North Georgia. We are considering either TWP 100 or TWP 200. What you would recommend? If we use the 100 series can we later use 200 or vice versa? Our deck is shaded by a large tree during the summer. If we use 200 Clear, how long before it will turn grey and when it does, can I get back the original tone with your deck prep cleaners?

Clear will gray in a matter of months. Must be tinted for UV protection.
Ok we’ll probably use the 100 line but you can state why you recommend 100 over the 200? Can 200 be used when we need to refinish it in a couple years or do we need to stay within the line we started with?
The 200 Series is designed for shakes and shingles, not decking.

I was hoping to mix a custom color stain for the wood around our windows on our hemlock sided home to closer match the window and door color. They are pella windows and door and I believe they are the brown color in the attached. I describe the color as a medium bronze.

There is not an easy way to guess at this. Really need to test some samples by mixing. Maybe Pecan and Dark Oak.
I omitted the other part of my question. How long should I wait to also treat pergola which has been latex water sealed before I can use two oil based two product so the two appearance is as similar as possible.

I have a 12 by 24 pine pressure treated deck installed 4 months ago. I also have an older pine pergola which I water sealed only. The water seal, competitors product, is latex and does not even last one year. What two product and application directions do you recommend for my deck keeping it as close to natural and still providing uv protection. I live in southeast US. I want to upload pics but don’t see how yet.
I had custom cedar posts and shutters put on my house and the carpenter stained them with the wrong color. I wanted TWP natural or rustic cedar stain color and the stain is red/orange. Is there anyway to correct this or tone it down?
No, you would need to remove and start over.
We have a red cedar deck which is five years old. WE had it professional stripped and stained in May of this year. The contractor used TWP 100 Pecan at our request. We are now seeing areas of graying mostly in shade areas under the bench area. Why would this be happening so soon ? What can we do about it ?

We are not seeing anything that is incorrect in the pictures. Wood color can vary throughout a board based on the wood grain and porosity. Areas around knots are denser and can be lighter in color. Also, there is some furring on the wood from the contractor’s prep and that looks darker as it is more absorbent.
I just finished a grill table build and finished it with two coats of TWP101 Cedartone. The color is beautiful. I am considering putting a coating of clear gloss marine coating/varnish in the table top to increase durability of the work surface. Do you have a recommendation either for or against doing this? Do you have a product recommendation?
You cannot topcoat over the TWP. It will peel.

We stained our 20 yr old deck ( with new boards on parts with twp 100, 2 coats after sanding and cleaning a month ago & it turned out beautiful. It has cured and dried a month in Atlanta ga so it’s in the 80’s . Put our rug down for gathering for 2 days and it rained. Boards look whitish where rug was and had to go over it with a mop then dry it. Quite a pain and would like to prevent that on the future. ( we only put rug out when entertaining).
I live in Canada and can only purchase the 200 series. We are going to be using Western Red Cedar T&G horizontal siding. I have a picture of the color we want. Can you please help with what color stain we should purchase? The 200 series currently does not have a photo album to see examples. We don’t want it to be too red and we also don’t want it to be too dark. Thanks in advance.

I just ordered some samples of 3 stain colors, once I apply them, do I need to strip them off before applying my choice stain or can I apply over it, if a darker color?

I am thinking of buying the TWP 200 stain since I live in Canada. I have 2 questions:
1 – is the only stain you sell for the Canadian market?
2 – is there any disadvantage to clear TWP 200, i.e. less UV protection since it is not colored?

1. Yes.
2. Clear will not prevent UV graying as well as the tined colors.
What Shade do you suggest for a deck made of cyprus that gets a lot of sunlight? Inside floors leading out are oak wood-look tile. Thinking of Dark Oak or Rustic. Does stain tend to go on lighter or darker than advertised?

I want to apply TWP to just sanded red cedar shingles that are about 10 old. I applied a test area of TWP 200 cedartone color and it looks very dark even after a week of dry time. Is cedar tone 200 darker than 1500? The shingles are freshly sanded. I’d like to preserve the current color with UV protection to prevent graying over time. Which product is best. I’m in Connecticut. Thanks.
For a lighter color, look at Honeytone in the 1500 Series. Colors will vary though based on wood porosity. Very absorbent wood like yours will be a little darker in color.
I used cedartone 1500 on a shed and like the color. We did a test spot on my house with 200 cedartone and it looks noticeably darker. Is that expected? The shingles are the same age and same prep.
Will 200 and 1500 look much different?
Will 1500 require recoating sooner than 200?
Yes, the 200 is darker when applied but lightens after full cure in 1-2 weeks. Similar in color but not the same. Both last the same.
I want a stain with brown and gray tones. Any suggestions? could I mix the 1500 dark brown with the 100 gray?
No, you cannot do that. You would have to stay in the same series.

Cabot Austalian oil stain on my deck now and previous question I asked if I had to remove this to put TWP on and told to remove Cabot before using TWP the Cabot stain over the TWP beautifully but my deck guy used it by mistake. How do I get the Cabot off ??

I have finished applying a second coat of TWP 100 to a new cedar deck that was installed last september. I brushed out puddling areas and wiped down with shop towels. This morning a few areas still seem glossy but not thick. How or what do I fo with these areas that are drying? Is it to late?

Now that I have power washed our 10 year old cedar fence, it looks like areas of it need to be sanded. Is this necessary before staining? I can’t imagine the labor involved in doing so.

Cincinnati OH…1500 Rustic Oak on Pine…sanded down to bare wood and used one coat…this is a 20 year old screened-in and covered porch so the wood was in great condition. Very happy with the results. Will probably do a second coat next spring after a good cleaning.
